ROAD SAFETY LETTER

29th March 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to express my growing concerns regarding road safety, traffic congestion and car parking around the school gates.

Over recent weeks parents have been seen stopping on the yellow zig zag lines and in the middle of the road to drop their children off. It has also been observed that parents are parking in resident bays on System Street and Metal Street. I also have concerns about parents walking with their children in and out of parked cars, into the middle of the road. Sadly, when asked to move on or to be more careful some parents are swearing and gesturing in inappropriate ways. This is totally unacceptable around children of any age.

Several parents have complained abut the current situation we are seeing on a daily basis and I have also received complaints from the public regarding parents showing lack of awareness when dropping off and collecting their child.

I do appreciate the building site on Metal Street is causing some issues due to a lack of pavements and walkways but I wish to remind you that if you don’t act responsibly around the school gates you can put children’s lives at risk.

Please read the following reminders which have been agreed with the school’s Health and Safety committee of Governors with support from our Health and Safety Officer from the Local Authority.

I am hopeful that all our parents will work together to help us improve this situation. I will be monitoring all four gates currently in use and directly contacting parents who do not support our mission to keep our whole school community safe at all times.

If you have any questions or wish to raise any concerns please speak to myself or Ms.Williams.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely

Mrs E Thomas – Head teacher
