UPDATES ON RE-OPENING AFTER HALF TERM
NEWSLETTER
Re-opening of school – February 2021
Dear parents and families,
I hope you are safe and well. I am writing to inform you of all the updates about school re-opening after half term. Please read this newsletter carefully.
If you have any questions please email us on: AdamsdownHelpline5@hwbcymru.net
I understand that this lockdown has been difficult for everyone. We have seen huge change across the whole of society and never before have schools closed and moved to being a remote school. To do this once as we did in 2020 is hard but this lockdown has been and continues to be even more challenging.
I recognise the impact lockdown will have had on you and your families and want to say well done for ensuring your child has engaged with their learning as much as possible. Every family has a different set of circumstances and we understand that not all children will have been able to join in with all their learning. We will assess the children on their return and use our spring parent’s evening to update you on how they will catch up with their learning.
I wish to remind you of the current lockdown rules that we must all follow:
As a school we are here to support. We look forward to seeing some of you after half term. On behalf of myself and all the staff we are looking forward to and hopeful that the time when our school can all come back together as a whole school community is not too far away.
Kind regards
Mrs E Thomas - Head teacher

- The school day has been shortened slightly to allow for teacher’s PPA (preparation, planning and assessment) time to take place and reduce the need for a PPA teacher to cover classes. This will reduce the risk of spreading covid-19.
Lunches
There will be no school meals provided so all children will need to bring a packed lunch to school along with a water bottle. Families entitled to free school meals will continue to receive vouchers.
Children will be eating their lunch in their classroom so please make sure they know how to open all the items in their lunch bag.
Health and Safety
- Your child’s class will become a social bubble with the adults who work in the classroom with them (please see our website for staffing information for this year).
- Each bubble will not mix with any other bubble at any time.
- Each bubble will follow strict hand hygiene procedures and cleaning takes place regularly throughout the day
- Children under the age of 11 do not need to socially distance or wear face masks but adults will remain 2 metres apart from children and adults.
- Children will need to wear clean clothes every day and change when they get home in the evening. We encourage you to dress your child in school uniform.
Contacting the school
- Parents and visitors will not be allowed on site so all children will be met at the gates by their teachers.
- If you wish to speak to the class teacher please ring the school and the teacher will ring you back when convenient.
- The school office can be contacted on 02920493600 but parents will not be able to enter the site unless collecting a child who has become unwell during school hours.
What to do if your child is unwell
DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF THEY HAVE A HEADACHE, HIGH TEMPERATURE OR FEEL UNWELL
- If your child becomes unwell in school they will be taken to a room where they can isolate from other children and you will be contacted. In this situation your child will need to be tested for covid-19 and the results reported back to school.
Period Provision
You may be aware that Adamsdown Primary school provides free sanitary (period) products to pupils who need them as part of Cardiff Council’s ‘Period Dignity’ programme. This currently includes period pads in all primary, special and secondary schools, along with tampons in secondary schools.
Recent funding from Welsh Government has required local authorities to ensure at least 50% of the period dignity grant is used to purchase eco-friendly period products, to help address the challenges posed by plastic pollution. Cardiff Council has now committed to only providing eco-friendly period products which means that primary and special schools will now receive eco-friendly disposable pads that are made from natural products such as bamboo and organic cotton. These will be made available for free to any pupil that needs them. Secondary schools will also receive tampons as well as a range of reusable products such as reusable cloth pads, period pants and menstrual cups.
Standard period pads are made from up to 90% plastic and can take over 500 years to decompose. I therefore hope you’ll agree that this is a positive move to using eco-friendly products which will help to tackle one aspect of plastic pollution.
IF YOU REQUIRE PERIOD SUPPLIES PLEASE RING MISS PRICE IN THE SCHOOL OFFICE FOR A COLLECTION TIME TO BE ARRANGED.
